ChatGPT

Developer mode. Then you sign in.

ChatGPT opens a browser. You allow it on wpadapter.com. You do not paste a key for this path.

Add the app

  1. Pair WordPress first: Connect this site in the plugin. Get started.
  2. Use ChatGPT on the web (chatgpt.com). Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, or Edu — not Free. The phone apps cannot add a custom MCP server.
  3. Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode. OpenAI moves this toggle. If it is not there, look under Settings → Apps → Advanced.
  4. Open chatgpt.com/plugins. Plus button. Name: WP Adapter. URL: https://wpadapter.com/mcp. Authentication: OAuth. Leave client ID blank if asked.
  5. Create / Scan tools. The browser opens wpadapter.com. Sign in. Allow ChatGPT.
  6. New chat: + → Developer mode → tick WP Adapter. Ask: list-sites.

The app is off until you tick it in that chat. Saving it in Settings is not enough.

What you should see

If the plan can edit WordPress, tools like get-post and update-post show up. If the plan is Forms only, you get create-form and friends — not page edits. Same URL. The key decides.

Then: “Rewrite the about page. Keep it a draft.” ChatGPT will ask you to confirm write calls. Approve them. You still hit publish.

If OAuth is missing

Some ChatGPT builds ask for a token instead. Mint a key in Account → Connect. Header Authorization = Bearer wpa_live_…. Include the word Bearer. Do not paste a wpa_site_ key. That is the same path as Cursor and Claude Code.

Never point ChatGPT at your WordPress URL. The dock has no public connector. Cloud MCP cannot override origin policy.
